SKOOZ NOOZ

I can repair or install almost any humidifier. From water panels, solenoid valves, or inner parts needed. Water panels should be replaced every Fall right before Winter usage when your indoor air gets dry. If you try to get 2 years out of a water panel, you risk the possibility of getting mold on your water panels and then it gets distributed into the air you breathe. The first stages of mold in your humidifier will be like the colors of a rainbow. 1st color is pink/orange which starts as a bacteria, then to a greenish mold color, and finally black mold. All of which can make you sick with symptoms a doctor hopefully can diagnose.

Hepa-filters

Frst of all, notice clean blower wheel and plugged blower wheel?; this is where your filter in your furnace comes into play. Don't ever use fiberglass filters or washables such as horsehair type or allergy/foam filters such as this client did. Use on a pleated filter or hepa-filter (see pics) depending on filter slot/compartment size. This can be done at our 'CLEAN AND CHECKS' in the Fall as we carry most common sizes of filters in our van.

Second Options Matter!

Is your compressor supposedly bad or failed?  Well, here at Skooz Heating & Cooling, we receive second opinion calls from clients like you asking us to come out to verify if they really need to replace their A/C or furnace due to bad compressors or cracked heat exchangers in their furnace. Many times, large companies and their techs want to try or are pressured into trying to sell you something. They many times get commissions for failing your systems for new installs.

Here at Skooz Heating & Cooling, we want to keep your existing unit running as long as we can. Each season we find that compressors were not bad, it was a bad capacitor, contactor or even a blown fuse preventing the compressor from starting. Replace one of them and A/C was up and running in 30 minutes or so. Furnaces that were condemned we inspected to find everything was fine and safe. Call us for a second opinion if you feel you need to.

For the best efficiency from your AC, keep bushes far away from the sides of the condenser coil. It will also provide enough space for your AC to be serviced properly.

Ed recommends mulch or gravel around all air conditioners so that mud won't splash into the condenser coil when it rains. In dry weather, grass clippings won't get sucked in the coil either.

Ed will advise his clients to check their Arzel boards after an outage or a storm in case it locks out. He will instruct on how to reset the board with written directions left on the job or he can verbally guide on how to reset the board.

An Arzel transformer supplies power to the board. Sometimes they can be accidentally unplugged from the receptacle.

Cracked Heat Exchanger in a furnace that was not maintained or inspected until they had a problem with "CO" carbon monoxide which can kill you or at least make you very ill.  Very important for your safety to have at least one CO (carbon monoxide) detector where it can be heard when sleeping. Good to have one on every floor or at each end of a ranch style house. Nighthawk co detectors we recommend with a digital readout.

Old, rusty burners from a 15-year-old heating system that was not serviced most likely from the date of installation. Some causes can be gas pressure being way too high, very wet in the furnace area, combustion gas not properly venting and one other reason is if the furnace stays too hot either due to overheating, cycling on high limit, and cold air coming down flue/chimney condensing on hot metal. Luckily some of these can be fixed and burners can be replaced.

A 240-volt 7500-watt heater I installed recently. A good alternative for people who don't have a gas supply or who don't want gas heaters. Must be sized according to your garage size; the breaker and wiring must be sized right for the wattage heater you are having installed.

A/C prices are on the rise every year for many reasons including the minimum SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) that keeps increasing. The higher the SEER rating the more expensive to purchase and when it comes to repair prices as parts fail and they will, very high parts cost as well.

Lightning Strike?
Here was a compressor that was struck by lightning according to the customer. I removed all burnt wires and terminals. I cleaned the male posts on the compressor and reattached new terminals; tested capacitor which was low on microfarads. Replaced it and compressor started, but was overamping while running. A month later, he said it is still running and plans on replacing system in the Spring of '24. Wires/terminals can burn up if capacitor is low along with loose terminals which can cause heat and melt. We catch all of these little things at A/C checks that can cause failure.

New water heater leaking?
Is your water heater leaking water? Is it coming from the brass temperature/pressure valve on the side of the tank? If it is, you may need an expansion tank added on to your water heater inlet line. They come pre-charged with air, but it has to match the water pressure in your home water lines. We can attach a pressure gauge to test the PSI in your water lines so we can pump up the expansion tank to match it. If your water heater is 10 -15 years or older, you may want to replace your tank. 10 years seems to be the magical age of when many water heaters start to fail or leak.

Here at Skooz Heating & Cooling, we can install your 40 or 50 gallon gas or electric water heater when it is time. We can do a check on the heater so we can inspect the bottom of heat exchanger for corrosion and test the water for sludge or rust. We also do yearly maintenance checks on water heaters in Fall/Winter during same visit for your furnace check.
